Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets
Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.
The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Administrative data
First-aid measures
Emergency measure - Inhalation: Remove to fresh air.
Emergency measure - Eyes: Immediately flush with water for at least 15 minutes
Emergency measure - Skin: Remove the liquid from the skin with dry cloth and wash with
detergent.
Emergency measure - Ingestion: Wash out mouth with water provided person is conscious.
Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person.
Consult a physician immediately.
Fire-fighting measures
Recommended extinguishing agent: Carbondioxide or foam extinguisher should be user.
Product arising from burning: Carbon dioxide, water and silica ash are produced by
complete combustion. Various intermediate organic oxides
such as aldehydes and carbon monoxide can naturally be
evolved too.
Product determined by test: N
Protective equipment: Personel protective equipments should be weared to avoid
inhalation and direct contact to skin or eyes.
Accidental release measures
Handling and storage
Handling: To avoid inhalation and direct contact to skin or eyes
rubber gloves, eye protection and/of masks must be weared
during the process.
Storage: The substance should be stored in closed containers at a
cool place without any ingition source.
Packaging of the substance and or preparation: The substance should be packaged in cans or drums of
resin-coated steel.

Stability and reactivity
Danger other than fire: The substance reacts gradually but steadily with water or
moisture even at ordinary conditions.
The reaction is not considered to be hazardous (not
explosive, not especially exothermic), only the released
methanol is naturally flammable and moderately hazardous to
the human health.
Chemical reaction with water: The methoxy groups directly attached to the Silicon atoms
are reactive with water.
H20
R-Si(OCH3)3 ======> R-Si(OH)3 + 3 CH3OH
Dust explosion determined by test: N
Disposal considerations
Industry - Possibility of recovery/recycling: No recycling of the used substance will be possible because
of the irreversible ready reactivity with water. The
substance will have been degraded before recovery.
Industry - Possibility of neutralisation: The hydrolysis of the substance produces the corresponding
silsequioxane, which will be less hazardous of inhalation
because of no longer volatility and may be less hazardous of
irritation because of lower permeability to skin and eyes.
