Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.
The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

- Executive summary:
Several technical parameters of light mineral aggregates (LMA)), industrially manufactured by semi-fast cooling of the molten slag on top of steel plates immersed in water, were determined. Approximately 3 % w/w of the SMS 0/32 has a diameter of less than 0.1 mm

Due to the highly porous structure, the specific gravity of aggregates is slightly higher than that of natural soils with corresponding granularity and mostly lower than that of (natural quartz) sand.
Description of key information
Slag, pig iron ladle refining, non-granulated, water-cooled is handled as skimmed-off iron ladle. Its particle size is similar to the particle size of SMS 0/32 and ranges from larger lumps in the cm-range to a small percentage of particles being < 0.1 mm. The product is water cooled, and kept humid until shipping takes place.
Additional information
Read-across is envisaged for Slag, pig iron ladle refining, non-granulated, water-cooled. Hence, an analytical determination for asbestos in powder via REM/ECX was performed in accordance with BGIA 7487. The mass content of asbestos in the sample was below 0.008% (w/w).
