Description of key information

Uronium hydrogen sulphate is of low toxicity to aquatic algae.
Uronium hydrogen sulphate readily degrades to urea and sulfuric acid and/or sulfate ions in the environment and these degradation products are considered in the assessment:
- The 192 hour toxicity threshold of blue-green algae urea was 47 mg/l. To some extent urea exhibits toxic action to Microcystis aeruginosa. The 7 day toxicity threshold of urea to Scenedesmus quadricauda was >10000 mg/l.
- The 72 h EC50 for calcium sulfate dihydrate was found to be >100 mg/L, which is equivalent to >79 mg/L for calcium sulfate anhydrous. No mortalities or adverse effects were noted at this concentration.
It can be concluded that Uronium hydrogen sulphate and its degradation products are not toxic to aquatic algae.
