Description of key information
Additional information
Appearance:At ambient temperature and pressure, cis-3,3,5 -trimethylcyclohexanol is a crystalline organic solid with an odour of menthol.
Melting temperature:The melting temperature of cis-3,3,5-trimethylcyclohexanol was determined by differential scanning calorimetry according to OECD Test Guideline 102 (1995) and EU test method A.1 (2008). The result was 26.0 °C at 1011.7 hPa.
Boiling point:Literature data for the boiling point range from 193 to 204°C at atmospheric pressure. Following the most reliable source, a differential scanning calorimetric studyperformed according to OECD 103 (1995) and 440/2008/EC A.2, a value of 197°C (1013 mbar) was taken as key study.
Density:The density of cis-3,3,5-trimethylcyclohexanol was taken from the most reliable study(OECD 109 (1995); 440/2008/EC A.3). The result is 0.945 g/cm3 at 20 °C. Other literature data for the density of cis-3,3,5-trimethylcyclohexanol range from 0.86 to 0.9006 g/cm3 depending on the temperature.
Vapour pressure:The vapour pressure of cis-3,3,5-trimethylcyclohexanol was determined from the most reliable studyperformed according to OECD 104 (2006) and 440/2008/EC A.4with the static method at temperatures from 30.3 - 152.1 °C. An Antoine equation was derived. The value at 20 °C is 0.4 hPa for the subcooled liquid.
Partition coefficient:The octanol/water partition coefficient of cis-3,3,5-trimethylcyclohexanol was determined as log Kow = 2.86 at 23 °Cwith the shake flask method according to OECD 107 (1981).
Water solubility: The water solubility of cis-3,3,5-trimethylcyclohexanol was determined according to OECD Guideline 105 (1995) and EU test method A.6 (2008) with the flask method. The result was 1.45 ± 0.03 g/l at 20 °C.
Flammability:cis-3,3,5-Trimethylcyclohexanol is not highly flammable according to the definition in Council Regulation (EC) No 440/2008, method A.10.
Explosiveness:As cis-3,3,5-trimethylcyclohexanol is neither shock sensitive nor thermally or friction sensitive, according to the criteria of the EC test method A.14 it is not representing an explosive hazard and is not to be considered to present a danger of explosion.
Waived studies:
Particle size distribution:The substance is used as a liquid at elevated temperature and marketed as a solidified liquid at ambient temperature. According to REACH Annex VII, 7.14, column 2 the study does not need to be conducted if the substance is marketed or used in a non solid or granular form.
Surface activity:Surface activity is not a desired property of the material and is not expected based on structure.
Flash point:The substance is a solid. The determination of a flash point is waived. The hazard of flammability is determined using EU method A.10 (see chapter 4.13).
Auto flammability:The substance is a solid with a melting point ≤ 160 °C (see chapter 4.2). Therefore, a test for auto flammability is not required according to REACH Annex VII, 7.12, column 2.
Oxidising properties:The substance is a solid with a melting point ≤ 160 °C (see chapter 4.2). Therefore, a test for oxidising properties is not required according to REACH Annex VII, 7.12, column 2.
