Thermal Stability
The DSC-measurement in closed glass crucible with the test item showed an endothermal effect in the temperature range 105 - 135 °C and several exothermal effects in the temperature range 140 - 380 °C with an overall energy of 161 J/g.
Explosive Properties
The heat of decomposition was determined to a maximum energy of 161 J/g. Due to an energy release below 500 J/g; explosive properties for the test item investigated can be excluded. Therefore the main test series on explosive properties was not deemed necessary.
Result
The test item, technical substance, has no explosive properties under the test conditions in the sense of the EU Method A.14 and in the sense of the US EPA OPPTS 830.6316.
Thermal Stability
The DSC-measurement in a closed glass crucible in stainless steel crucible showed an endothermal effect in the temperature range 110 - 140 °C, two exothermal effects in the temperature range 155 - 230 °C and 270 - 385 °C respectively with an overall energy of 295 J/g.
An additional DSC-measurement in a closed glass crucible with the test item showed an endothermal effect in the temperature range 110 - 140 °C and several exothermal effects in the temperature range 140 - 490 °C with an overall energy of 278 J/g.
Explosive Properties
The heat of decomposition was determined to a maximum energy of 295 J/g. Due to an energy release below 500 J/g; explosive properties for the test item investigated can be excluded.
Therefore the main test series on explosive properties was not deemed necessary.
Result
The test item, pure substance, has no explosive properties under the test conditions in the sense of the EU Method A.14 and in the sense of the EPA OPPTS 830.6316.
Description of key information
There are no chemical groups associated with explosive properties present in the molecule. Furthermore the exothermic decomposition energy determined by Differential Scanning Calorimetry is less than 500 J/g (EU A.14, OPPTS 830.6313, DSC).
Key value for chemical safety assessment
- Explosiveness:
- non explosive
Additional information
Justification for classification or non-classification
The available data on explosive properties of the test substance do not meet the criteria for classification according to Regulation (EC) 1272/2008, and therefore is conclusive but not sufficient for classification: Based on the chemical structure and on the exothermic decomposition energy less than 500 J/g the substance is not explosive.
