Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
flammable solids
Remarks:
described as very viscous liquid, tested as solid
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
18 October 1999 -03 November 1999
Reliability:
2 (reliable with restrictions)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study with acceptable restrictions
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.10 (Flammability (Solids))
Deviations:
yes
Remarks:
the 'rope' of test substance used had a cross-section of 1 cm, whereas the guideline recommends 2 cm
GLP compliance:
yes
Key result
Test procedure:
burning rate test: preliminary screening test
Remarks:
Under the terms of the test method, the full burning rate test was not required because the test substance did not ignite or propagate along the test pile.
Remarks on result:
substance does not ignite and propagate combustion either by burning with flame or smouldering along 200 mm of the powder train within the 2 minutes test period
Interpretation of results:
GHS criteria not met
Conclusions:
In a GLP study, EC# 434-650-5 was tested for flammability according to the EU Method A.10. It failed to ignite under the conditions of the test, and so is considered not highly flammable.
Executive summary:

In a GLP study, the flammability of EC# 434-650-5 was determined using the EU Method A.10 for testing the flammability of solids. The test substance was spread on a non-combustible, non-porous, low-conducting board in the form of a "rope", 250 mm in length and with a cross section of approximately 1 cm2. A flame with a minimum diameter of 5 mm was applied to one end for 2 minutes.

The test substance melted and gave off some smoke and vapour, but failed to ignite and there was no propagation of the flame. The substance is, therefore, considered to be not highly flammable.

Endpoint:
flammable solids
Type of information:
read-across from supporting substance (structural analogue or surrogate)
Adequacy of study:
key study
Reason / purpose for cross-reference:
read-across source
Key result
Test procedure:
burning rate test: preliminary screening test
Remarks:
Under the terms of the test method, the full burning rate test was not required because the test substance did not ignite or propagate along the test pile.

Executive summary:

In view of the structural and chemical similarities, it is considered that the results of this study can be used for read-across to EC# 457-320-2.
