Description of key information

Appearance

On the basis of physical observation, test chemical was observed to be Clear , colourless yellow liquid with characteristic odour .

 

Melting point

the freezing point of test chemical was determined to be less than -13.8°C.

 

Boiling Point

The mean  boiling point of test chemical was  determined to be 146°C at 976.9 hPa

 

Density

The density of test item was determined following OECD Guideline 109 and according to theIS 4730 : 1994 (Reaffirmed 2010) – Method for Determination of Density of Liquids (First Revision) using glass pyknometer. The mean  density of test item  was determined to be 0.92 g/cm³ at 20°C and 973.3 hPa.

 

Particle size distribution

The study does not need to be conducted because the substance is marketed or used in a non solid or granular form.

 

Vapour pressure

Based on the available data from handbook, the vapour pressure of test chemical was determined to be 5.595 mmHg (746 Pa) at 25°C.

 

Partition coefficient

The Log Pow value was determined to be 0.109 dimensionless at 25°C.

This value indicates that the substance is hydrophilic in nature.

 

Water solubility

The water solubility determination of test item  was done as per the OECD guideline 105 by spectrophotometric analytical method as per OECD 101. The solubility of test chemical in water was determine to be 163130 mg/L at 25°C.

Thus the test chemical  is considered to be highly soluble.

 

Surface tension

Based on the data available from study , the surface tension of the test chemical was determined to be 68.99 mN/m at 20 deg c.

 

Flash point

The flash point determination of test substance was done . The method is closed cup method using Abel's Flash Point Apparatus. The flashpoint of the test substance was found to be 32°C at 980.9 hPa

 

Auto flammability

Test chemical did not catch fire on being exposed to air at room temperature of 28°C and pressure of 975 hPa. This indicates that the test chemical is not auto-flammable.

 

Flammability

Flash point of test substance was determined to be 32°C at 980.9 hPa. On the basis of GHS classification criteria, test chemical has flash point ≥ 23°C to < 60°C hence the test chemical was considered to be flammable and considered to be classified as flammable liquid category 3.

 

Explosiveness

The study does not need to be conducted because the there are no chemical groups present in the molecule which are associated with explosive properties.

 

Oxidizing properties

The study does not need to be conducted because the organic substance does not contain oxygen or halogen atoms and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied.

The pH determination of test item was done as per the test guideline OECD 122. The mean pH of the test dispersion was determined with the help of digital pH meter. The mean pH was determine to be 9.41at 22.8°C.

Also , Based on the data from reliable handbook and authoritative database, the appearance of test chemical was observed to be oily liquid with a odor of pyridine plus peppermint.

Additional data from authoritative database indicates the appearance of test chemical as colorless oily liquid.

The boiling point determination of test chemical was done as per the test guideline OECD 103. The method followed was according to Siwoloboff. The boiling point of test chemical was determined to be 146°C at 976.9 hPa

In support to the key study data from handbook and authoritative databases, the boiling point of test chemical was determined to be 145.7°C at 101325 Pa.

Additional data from handbook indicates the boiling point of test chemical as147.3°C .

Also , data from handbook and authoritative databases, depicts the boiling point of test chemical to be in the range of 143 to 145°C.

In an another supporting study from reliable handbook,authoritative and modelling databases, the boiling point of test chemical was determined to be 144°C.
