Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
pyrophoric solids
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is known to be stable in contact with air at room temperature for prolonged periods of time (days) and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied
Endpoint:
self-heating substances / mixtures
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
other:
Endpoint:
substances / mixtures which in contact with water emit flammable gases
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the experience in production or handling shows that the substance does not react with water, e.g. the substance is manufactured with water or washed with water
Endpoint:
flammable solids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study

EU Method A.10 (Flammability (Solids))
Version / remarks:
May 31, 2008
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Remarks:
Hess. Ministerium für Umwelt, Energie, Landwirtschaft und Verbraucherschutz, Wiesbaden, Germany
Specific details on test material used for the study:
- Appearance: solid/white
- Analytical purity: >92% based on 44.8 % BaO and 42.8 % P2O5
- Batch No.: 9000008613
- Expiration date of the lot/batch: April 23, 2017
- Storage conditions: At room temperature (20 °C ± 5 °C) in the dark
Key result
Test procedure:
burning rate test: preliminary screening test
Remarks on result:
substance does not ignite and propagate combustion either by burning with flame or smouldering along 200 mm of the powder train within the 2 minutes test period

The test item could not be ignited. Therefore, the test item is considered to be not flammable.

Description of key information

non flammable

no pyrophoricity

no flammability on contact with water

not self-heating

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
not classified

Additional information

The substance did not ignite in the preliminary screening test according to EU. A.10.

Based on experience in handling and use and the chemical structure pyrophoricity and flammability on contact with water are not to be expected.

The results from self-ignition temperature (A.16.), which is similar to Grewer Oven test, showed that there is no auto-ignition/self-heating potential up to 400 °C.

Justification for classification or non-classification

The available data on flammability of the test substance do not meet the criteria for classification according to Regulation (EC) 1272/2008 or Directive 67/548/EEC, and are therefore conclusive but not sufficient for classification:

Based on experimental result the substance is a non flammable solid. It did not ignite in the preliminary screening test according to EU. A.10. Based on the chemical structure and experience in handling and use pyrophoricity and flammability on contact with water are not expected.

Preliminary result excludes the self-heating of the substance up to 400 °C.
