key study
Study period:
01 November 2010
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
OECD Guideline 110 (Particle Size Distribution / Fibre Length and Diameter Distributions)
Principles of method if other than guideline:
The method used is based on a procedure designed to comply with that given in 'Particle size distribution, fibre length and diameter distribution', June 1996 European Commission technical guidance document, which satisfies the requirements of OECD Guideline 110
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Type of method:
sieving
Type of particle tested:
primary particle
Type of distribution:
mass based distribution
No.:
#1
Size:
< 100 µm
Distribution:
16.8 %

The results of the sieving procedure are shown below:

 Measurement

Result

Mass of test item transferred to sieve

10.24g

Mass of test item passed through sieve

1.72g

Proportion of test item <100µm

16.8%
Conclusions:
The proportion of potassium dicyanoargentate < 100 μm was 16.8%.
Executive summary:

This is a GLP compliant study following OECD guideline 110 (Screening test) and is suitable for use as the key study for this endpoint. The proportion of potassium dicyanoargentate < 100 μm was 16.8%.

Description of key information

The proportion of potassium dicyanoargentate < 100 μm was 16.8%

Additional information

A GLP-compliant study following OECD guideline 110 (screening test) is available for this endpoint (Harlan Laboratories 2011) and is considered suitable for use as the key study. The proportion of potassium dicyanoargentate < 100 μm was 16.8%

The dustiness of potassium dicyanoargentate was tested in a modified Heubach procedure according to standard guideline (Selck and Parr 2012). The total dustiness was determined to be 90.92 mg/g (9.1%). The inhalable fraction was 52.94 mg/g (40.9 %), the thoracic fraction was 7.21 mg/ g (0.12 %) and the respirable fraction was 2.30 mg/g (0.11 %). The Mass Median Aerodynamic Diameter (MMAD) was determined to be 34.9 μm with a geometric standard deviation of 2.1 μm.
