First-aid measures
Self-protection of the first aider: Wear appropriate personal protective equipment, avoid direct contact. Provide proper respiratory protection to rescuers entering an unknown atmosphere. It may be dangerous to the person providing aid to give mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. Contaminated clothing should be discarded.
IF INHALED: MMEDIATELY leave the contaminated area; take deep breaths of fresh air. IMMEDIATELY call a physician and be prepared to transport the victim to a hospital even if no symptoms (such as wheezing, coughing, shortness of breath, or burning in the mouth, throat, or chest) develop.
IF ON SKIN (or hair): IMMEDIATELY flood affected skin with water while removing and isolating all contaminated clothing. Gently wash all affected skin areas thoroughly with soap and water. IMMEDIATELY call a hospital or poison control centre even if no symptoms (such as redness or irritation) develop. IMMEDIATELY transport the victim to a hospital for treatment after
washing the affected areas.
IF IN EYES: Flush victim's eyes with water / normal saline solution for 20 to 30 minutes while simultaneously calling a hospital or poison control centre. Do not put any ointments, oils, or medication in the victim's eyes without specific instructions from a physician. IMMEDIATELY transport the victim after flushing eyes to a hospital even if no symptoms (such as redness or irritation) develop.
IF SWALLOWED: DO NOT INDUCE VOMITING. Corrosive chemicals will destroy the membranes of the mouth, throat, and oesophagus and, in addition, have a high risk of being aspirated into the victim's lungs during vomiting which increases the medical problems. If the victim is conscious and not convulsing, give 1 or 2 glasses of water to dilute the chemical and IMMEDIATELY call a hospital or poison control centre. If the victim is convulsing or unconscious, do not give anything by mouth, ensure that the victim's airway is open and lay the victim on his/her side with the head lower than the body. DO NOT INDUCE VOMITING. Transport the victim IMMEDIATELY to a hospital.
Symptoms: Symptoms of exposure to this compound may include headache, dizziness, dermatitis, corrosion to tissues (eyes, throat, nose and skin), nausea, vomiting, hematemesis, abdominal cramps, diarrhoea, nervous- ness, dyspnoea, cyanosis, oliguria, proteinuria, haematuria, jaundice, hepatomegaly, optic neuritis, unconsciousness, coma, ventricular fibrillation. It may cause lacrimation. It may cause respiratory failure. Other symptoms may include severe burns to the eyes and skin, blistering and burning of the skin and depression. Inhalation may cause coughing, difficult breathing, sneezing and salivation. Inhalation may be fatal as a result of spasm, inflammation, edema of the larynx and bronchi, chemical pneumonitis and pulmonary edema. Exposure may also lead to a burning sensation, wheezing, laryngitis and shortness of breath. Causes allergic contact dermatitis. Repeat exposure may result in damage to organs.
Medical treatment: There is no specific antidote. Dermal: If blistering develops, the skin should be covered with loosely wrapped sterile bandages. Standard topical therapy may be appropriate.
Note to physician: Due to possible delayed effect of poisoning and for safety reasons, they should be kept under medical observation for at least 48 hours.
Fire-fighting measures
Unsuitable extinguishing media: Direct water jet. Direct water jet may spread the fire.
Special hazards arising from the substance: Non-flammable, not suspected to be combustible. When heated to decomposition it may emit acrid smoke, hydrogen chloride gas, chlorine, phosgene, carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide.
Advice for fire-fighters: Fire fighters should wear complete protective clothing including self-contained breathing apparatus. Do not breathe fumes. Keep containers cool by spraying with water if exposed to fire. Avoid run off to waterways and sewers. Do not allow run-off from firefighting to enter drains or water courses.
Accidental release measures
Environmental precautions: Avoid release to the environment. Do not allow into any sewer on the ground, or into any body of water. Any large spillage into watercourses must be alerted to the regulatory authority responsible for environmental protection or other regulatory body. Bund storage facilities to prevent soil and water pollution in the event of spillage.
Methods and material for containment and cleaning up: Only trained and properly protected personnel must be involved in clean-up operations. In the case of a spill or leak, earth, sand, or some other non-combustible absorbent material can be used to absorb the chemical. This material is then placed in a clean, dry, covered container for later disposal. Dry spills can be removed using a clean shovel. For large spills, the liquid should be contained, or diked, at a distance from the spill for later disposal. In the case of an air release, vapours should be knocked down with a water spray. Transfer to a lidded container for disposal or recovery. Ventilate the area and wash spill site after material pick-up is complete; solvent wash all contaminated surfaces with 60-70% ethanol followed by washing with a soap and water solution. Do not re-enter the contaminated area until the Safety Officer (or other responsible person) has verified that the area has been properly cleaned.
Handling and storage
Conditions for safe storage: Store in correctly labelled containers. Opened containers should be carefully resealed and stored in an upright position. Substance should be stored in tightly closed containers, labelled as corrosive, and stored in a cool, dry place, away from moisture, heat, and strong oxidizing agents.
Incompatible materials: Oxidizing agents, sodium, olefins, polynuclear hydrocarbons, common metals. Reacts slowly with water to form hydrochloric acid.

Exposure controls / personal protection

Respiratory protection: When working with this chemical, wear a NIOSH-approved full face positive pressure supplied-air respirator or a self-contained breathing apparatus. Self-contained air-masks or full face canister gas masks of the acid gases and organic vapors type should be available at all times
Hand protection: Wear impervious gloves (EN374). After contamination with product change the gloves immediately and dispose of them according to relevant national and local regulations. Recommended glove material:

Eye protection: Wear goggles giving complete protection to eyes to protect against liquid splashes (EN166).
Skin and body protection: Wear impervious protective clothing, including boots, lab coat, apron or coveralls, as appropriate, to prevent skin contact.

Disposal considerations
Additional Information: Ensure that all packaging is disposed of safely. Containers of this material may be hazardous when empty since they retain product residue. Make sure that packaging is completely empty before recycling. Dispose of uncured residues in the same way as the product itself.
