Description of key information
Appearance:
On the basis of physical observation, Formaldehyde, reaction products with N,N-dimethylbenzenamine and N-methylbenzenamine, oxidized, hydrochlorides was found to be an organic solid present as greenish powder.
Melting Point:
The melting point of test chemicalFormaldehyde, reaction products with N,N-dimethylbenzenamine and N-methylbenzenamine, oxidized, hydrochlorides(CAS No. 83968-28-9) was done as per the test guideline OECD 102. The method followed was according to Capillary/metal block. The test item did not melt but showed colour change from green to black. Thus, the decomposition temperature was found to be 186.8 °C at 978.5.hPa
Boiling point:
According to Column II of Annex VII, the boiling point study does not need to be conducted for solids which either melt above 300 °C or decompose before boiling. The substance Formaldehyde, reaction products with N,N-dimethylbenzenamine and N-methylbenzenamine, oxidized, hydrochlorides is a solid at room temperature and it is reported to decompose at a temperature of 186.8 °C without melting.Hence, it is not feasible to determine boiling point and the endpoint was considered for waiver.
Density:
The density of test itemFormaldehyde, reaction products with N,N-dimethylbenzenamine and N-methylbenzenamine, oxidized, hydrochlorides(CAS No.83968-28-9) was determined following OECD Guideline 109 and according to themethod recommended in the International Pharmacopoeia, fourth Edition, 2014 using bulk density apparatus .The mean pour and tapped density of the test item was found to be 0.5933g/cm3and 0.7272 g/cm3, respectively at 26.2 °C and 981 .6hPa
Particle size Distribution:
The particle size distribution of test item Formaldehyde, reaction products with N,N-dimethylbenzenamine and N-methylbenzenamine, oxidized, hydrochlorides (CAS No. 83968-28-9) was determined by granulometric analysis with rotap sieve shaker. The particle size distribution was found to be in the range of 150 micron to 10 micron. The Percentage distribution (%) of test item for maximum value, 150 micron was observed to be
34.31 %.
Vapour pressure
Vapour pressure of Formaldehyde, reaction products with N,N-dimethylbenzenamine and N-methylbenzenamine, oxidized, hydrochlorides is estimated to be 0.00000000237 Pa at 25°C by Modified Grain Method.
Partition coefficient
The octanol-water partition coefficient (Log Kow) of Formaldehyde, reaction products with N,N-dimethylbenzenamine and N-methylbenzenamine, oxidized, hydrochlorides is estimated to be 0.3303.
Water Solubility:
The water solubility of Formaldehyde, reaction products with N,N-dimethylbenzenamine and N-methylbenzenamine, oxidized, hydrochlorides is estimated to be 0.20727 mg/L.
Surface tension:
In accordance with column 2 of Annex VII of the REACH regulation, the study need only be conducted if surface activity is a desired property of the chemical. The chemical Formaldehyde, reaction products with N,N-dimethylbenzenamine and N-methylbenzenamine, oxidized, hydrochlorides is used as a textile dye and also as a color in inks and paints. For these uses, surface activity is not desired property. Hence this study was considered for waiver.
Flash point:
The flash point determination ofFormaldehyde, reaction products with N,N-dimethylbenzenamine and N-methylbenzenamine, oxidized, hydrochlorides (CAS No. 83968-28-9) was done following closed cup method using Pensky-Martens flash point apparatus. The experimentally determined decomposition temperature of this test item is 186.8 °C, however, the flash in the closed cup method was observed above the decomposition temperature, i.e., at 224.6 °Cat 979.9 hPa
Auto flammability:
The chemical Formaldehyde, reaction products with N,N-dimethylbenzenamine and N-methylbenzenamine, oxidized, hydrochlorides does not catch fire upon exposure to air at normal conditions of temperature and pressure. Thus the chemical is not likely to be "Auto flammable" and hence this end point was considered for waiver and the chemical is not considered to be "self igniting".
Flammability:
Formaldehyde, reaction products with N,N-dimethylbenzenamine and N-methylbenzenamine, oxidized, hydrochlorides does not indicate any ignition when the flame of bunsen burner having temperature of approximately 950°C is brought in contact with it. Thus it can be concluded that Formaldehyde, reaction products with N,N-dimethylbenzenamine and N-methylbenzenamine, oxidized, hydrochlorides is not flammable at high temperature. However since such high temperatures are not found under normal circumstances of transportation and use, thus Formaldehyde, reaction products with N,N-dimethylbenzenamine and N-methylbenzenamine, oxidized, hydrochlorides was considered non-flammable for chemical safety assessment.
Explosiveness :
In accordance with column 2 of Annex VII of the REACH regulation, the study does not need to be conducted since there are no chemical groups associated with explosive properties present in the molecule of Formaldehyde, reaction products with N,N-dimethylbenzenamine and N-methylbenzenamine, oxidized, hydrochlorides. Thus, this end point was considered for waiver and the chemical is considered to be "Non explosive".
Oxidising property:
The chemical formaldehyde, reaction products with N,N-dimethylbenzenamine and N-methylbenzenamine, oxidized, hydrochlorides does not exhibit oxidising properties as per the manufacturer of this chemcal. Thus, the chemcial is considered to be "Non-oxidising".
pH:
The pH of 1% w/v aqueous solution of the test item Formaldehyde, reaction products with N,N-dimethylbenzenamine and N-methylbenzenamine, oxidized, hydrochlorides (CAS No. 83968-28-9) was 3.27 at 28.8°C.
