Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

No tests on terrestrial organisms are available for Fusel oil. Due to the ready biodegradability of the main constituents of the substance 2 -Methylbutanol (CAS No. 137-32-6), Ethanol (CAS No. 64-17-5) and 2-Methylpropanol (CAS No. 78-83-1), exposure of terrestrial organisms is unlikely. In addition, according to the Guidance on Information Requirements and Chemical Safety Assessment (Chapter 7c Endpoint Specific Guidance, Table 7.11.2) there is no need for testing if there is no indication for high absorption (log Kow < 5) and there is no indication that the substance is very toxic (acute EC50 > 1mg/l). For all main components of Fusel oil log Kow values are reported to be below 2 and the acute EC50 values are > 100 mg/L. Thus, the available data indicate, that the substance is not bioaccumulative and not harmful to aquatic organisms. Based on the available information, toxicity to terrestrial organisms is not expected to be of concern. The generation of terrestrial toxicity data is therefore not required.
