Description of key information

A subchronic neurotoxicity study of phenyl diisodecyl phosphite (PDDP) in hens showed some signs of neurotoxicity (distal peripheral neuropathy) in 2 of 10 hens at 4000 mg/kg bw/day.  There were no neurotoxic effects observed at 1000 mg/kg bw/day.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Adminstration of PDDP at doses of 100, 1000 and 4000 mg/kg/day for four weeks resulted in slight body weight losses at the hightest dose and possible test material-realted mortality at the middle and high dose. Although no neurotoxic effects were evident from antemortem evaluations, microscopic examination revealed a distal, peripheral neuropathy in two of the ten high-dose animals. No microscopic alterations were seen in low or mid dose animals. No altered NTE values attributed to PDDP administration were evident at any dose level.
