Additional information

 Several studies explored the acute toxicity of dibromomethane via the 3 main exposure routes (oral, dermal, and inhalation).

In a 4-hour inhalation study in rats receiving about 20 mg/L to 21-22 mg/L dibromomethane in air, no mortalities occurred and no lasting pathological changes were seen at 18 and 20 days post treatment. LC50> 22.3 mg/L was observed. 

Oral LD50was > 1000 mg/kg/bw was derived from a 14 day day range-finding study for a reproduction/developmental toxicity study conducted according to OECD TG 421 and US EPA OPPTS 870.3550.

No reliable acute dermal toxicity information is available. The results from a secondary source suggest dibromomethane is of low toxicity via the dermal route (LD50 > 4000 mg/kg bw/day).
