Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

Propane-1,2,3-triyl 3,5,5-trimethylhexanoate (CAS No. 56554-53-1) is not expected to be present in the atmosphere in relevant amounts, based on its low vapour pressure (< 0.001 Pa). Nevertheless, if released into the air, rapid photodegradation of the substance is expected, based on an estimated half-life of 15.7 hours (AOPWIN v1.92). Hydrolysis is not expected to be a significant degradation pathway due to the high insolubility of the substance in water (water solubility < 0.05 mg/L) and estimated half-lives of 2.5 years at pH 7 and 93 days at pH 8 (HYDROWIN v2.00). Propane-1,2,3-triyl 3,5,5-trimethylhexanoate reached 60% biodegradation in a study conducted according to OECD 301B, however the 10-day window criterion was not met. The results obtained in the toxicity control in this test (62% biodegradation within 14 days) confirm that the test substance is not inhibitory of the activity of activated sludge microorganisms. Due to the high adsorption potential of propane-1,2,3-triyl 3,5,5-trimethylhexanoate (log Kow > 10), low water solubility and low potential for volatilization into air, sediment and soil are expected to be the main compartments of environmental distribution of the substance. Nevertheless, considering the extensive biodegradation observed in the ready biodegradability test, high persistency is unlikely to occur in these compartments.
