Acute tests on all three trophic levels were performed to examine the aquatic toxicity of the reaction product of urea, formaldehyde, glyoxal and diethylene glycol. Algae turned out to be the most sensitive species revealing an EC50 (72h) of 178.9 mg/L. Thus, the reaction product is considered to be acutely not harmful to aquatic organisms. Studies on the effects of the Reaction product of urea, formaldehyde, glyoxal and diethylene glycol towards fish and daphnia support this conclusion by providing a LC50 (96h) of 2500 mg/L for fish and an EC50 (48h) of >489 mg/L for Daphnia.

No data on the long-term aquatic toxicity of the submission item are available. However, the absence of adverse effects in acute studies on all three trophic levels as well as the fate properties suggest a low potential for severe long-term toxicity of the submission item to the environment.
