Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The lethal concentration (LC50) value of Eicosanoic acid in fish [Carassius auratus] in a 96 hr study on the basis of mortality effect was estimated to be 4.67 mg/L. Based on this LC50 value, the substance may qualify for the aquatic classification. But after compairing with other CLP criteria for BCF and biodegradation it is concluded that Eicosanoic acid does not exhibit short term toxicity to fish (Carassius auratus) i.e. it is non hazardous to the aquatic environment.

Based on the studies summarized in the above table for the target substance Eicosanoic acid and the read across substance, the endpoint value was found to vary between lethal concentration (LC50) = 4.67 mg/L to 40 mg/L in a 48 hrs. to 96 hrs.study on the basis of mortality effect. Based on the LC50 values, the substance may qualify for the aquatic classification. But after compairing with other CLP criteria for BCF and biodegradation it is concluded that Eicosanoic acid does not exhibit short term toxicity to fish (Carassius auratus, Oncorhynchus kisutch and Oryzias latipes) i.e. it is non hazardous to the aquatic environment.
