- Conclusions:
- Decahydronaphthalene was shown to induce increased concentration of urinary alpha-2u-globulin associated with alpha-2u-globulin concentration in the kidney.
- Executive summary:
Marked elevation of urinary kidney-type-alpha 2u-globulin (alphaG-K, molecular weight approximately 16 kDa) was noted following oral treatment of adult male rats with decahydronaphthalene by gavage (1.5 mmol/kg/day) for 7 consecutive days, in association with increased concentrations of renal alphaG-K and hyaline droplet accumulation in renal proximal convoluted tubule epithelial cells.
The findings in this study thus indicate that measurement of urinary alphaG-K can give a reliable estimates not only of the potential to cause renal accumulation of alpha-2u-globulin but also of its magnitude.
