No data are available regarding toxicity to terrestrial plants of Benzenepropanoic acid, 3,5 -bis(1,1 -dimethylethyl)-4 -hydroxy-,C7 -9 branched alkyl esters (CAS 125643 -61 -0).

For the substance Butyl 3,5 -bis(1,1 -dimethylethyl)-4 -hydroxybenzenepropanoate (CAS 52449 -44 -2), which can be considered as read-across possibility, an experiment was conducted under certificated GLP compliance with reliability 1 (reliable without restriction).

A study was performed to assess the effects of the test material on the emergence and growth of three plant species (Goodband and Mullee, 2009). The method followed that described in the OECD Guidelines for Testing of Chemicals: Guideline 208: Terrestrial (Non-target) Plant Test: Seedling Emergence and Seedling Growth Test (July 2006). Following a preliminary range-finding test, three plant species; two dicotyledonous species, soybean (Glycine max) and tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum) and one monocotyledonous species, oat (Avena sativa) were exposed to concentrations of 100, 180, 320, 560 and 1000 mg/kg. The number of seedlings emerged and any mortalities and/or morphological abnormalities were determined daily for 21 days after 50% emergence in the control for each species. Analysis of the 50 g/500 mL solvent stock solution used to prepare the test concentrations on Day 0 showed a measured test concentration of 101% of nominal value and so the results are based on nominal test concentrations only. The EC50 based on emergence were for all three species found to be greater than 1000 mg/kg, with a corresponding NOEC of 1000 mg/kg, respectively. The NOEC was that concentration where no significant effect was observed for dry weight compared to the solvent control and no morphological abnormalities were observed. Based on growth, the EC50 for soybean and oat are greater than 1000 gm/kg, for tomato a value of 290 mg/kg was determined with a 95 % confidence limit of 180 - 430 mg/kg. The corresponding NOECs were 1000 mg/kg for soybean, 180 mg/kg for tomato and 320 mg/kg for oat, respectively.
