In the absence of adequate aquatic chronic toxicity information from all three trophic levels, the classification was based on short-term aquatic toxicity values from three trophic levels in marine organisms (72-h ErC50= 17.8 mg/L in marine algae, 48-h EC50 = 136.6 mg/L mg/L in marine invertebrates, 96-h LC50 > 1,000 mg/L in marine fish). The substance was shown to be rapidly biodegradable in marine water (i.e., 74.3% degradation in 28 d) and is therefore considered to be readily biodegradable and not persistent in the environment. The higher of the two experimentally-determined octanol-water partition coefficient values was reported as log Kow = 1.22, which is substantially below the threshold for possible environmental classification (log Kow ≥ 4). In summary, there is no evidence that the acute toxicity tests do not provide a true measure of the intrinsic toxicity of the substance, which is not expected to be persistent or bioaccumulative in the environment. Therefore, the substance was not classified with respect to the aquatic environment.
