Description of key information

MCPBA is a soluble organic mono-constituent solid with a low vapour pressure and low log P value. There are no toxicokinetic data on MCPBA itself. The physico-chemical properties of this substance indicate that it will be likely to be absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract or through the skin. This is supported by the available toxicity data. There are no studies available to evaluate the systemic distribution of MCPBA. However, the log P value would suggest that, if absorbed, it is likely that the substance would be widely distributed. The substance is expected to be metabolized under the action of peroxidases, based on structural consideration. Metabolism might include initial reduction to the corresponding hydroxy compound, 3-chlorobenzoic acid. In which case it is unlikely that much, if any, parent substance will be available for excretion. It is anticipated that the metabolites would be excreted in the urine.
