Description of key information

No experimental data on ammonium-S-lactate are available. In aqueous environments ammonium-S-lactate fully dissociates into NH4+ ions and lactate ions. Therefore, transport and distribution behaviour of lactate in the environment can be understood in terms of the transport and distribution behaviour of NH3/NH4+ and lactic acid.

In accordance with regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 (REACH) annex VIII, column 2, a hydrolysis study is not required if the substance is ready biodegradable.

Lactic acid is readily biodegradable and the NH3/NH4+ is as such not hydrolysable.

Additional information

This information is used in a read-across approach in the assessment of the target substance.

For details and justification of read-across please refer to the attached report in section 13 of IUCLID.
