Additional information

N-(2-aminoethyl)-N’-[3-(trimethoxysilyl)propyl]ethylenediamine (CAS 35141-30-1) degrades rapidly in water through hydrolysis (half-life = 4.3 h at 20-25°C and pH 7). The transformation products are N-(2-aminoethyl)-N'-[3-(trihydroxysilyl)propyl]ethylenediamine and methanol. Since the parent compound is not stable in the environment the hydrolysis products were further assessed for transport and distribution according to REACH guidance for Chemical Safety Assessment (Chapter R16). On the basis of available data, the silanol hydrolysis product N-(2-aminoethyl)-N'-[3-(trihydroxysilyl)propyl]ethylenediamine is highly water soluble (1E+6 mg/L) and bears a low volatility (2E-7 Pa) and adsorption potential. Therefore the main compartment of distribution is expected to be the water column.

The physicochemical parameters and environmental fate of the other hydrolysis product methanol are well known and described in the SIDS initial assessment report for SIAM 19: Methanol (OECD 2004).
