Any other information on results incl. tables
The reference item potassium bromate (Alfa Aesar, lot 10191952, 99.7 %) contained a residual moisture of < 0.1 wt %, determined by drying the substance at 65°C until constant weight. The fraction from 150 µm to 300 µm obtained after sieving was used.
Cellulose powder (Technocel 75, lot G03001614) exhibited already a parcticle size of < 90 µm, mean fibre length of appr. 60 µm and was therefore not sieved. It was dried at 105°C until constant weight (residual moisture was determined to be 6.2 wt.-%).
The test item was sieved and the fraction < 500 µm was used for the test.
Applicant's summary and conclusion
- Interpretation of results:
- GHS criteria not met
- Conclusions:
- The burning time of the mixtures of the test item with cellulose (4:1 and 1:1) was greater than the burning time of the reference mixture of potassium bromate and cellulose (3:7). Based on the test results the test item does not have to be classified as oxidizing solid.
- Executive summary:
The objective of this study was the determination of the oxidizing properties of the test item according to the
Recommendations on the TRANSPORT OF DANGEROUS GOODS: Manual of Tests and Criteria, 6thedition, New York and Geneva, 2015: Part III, Division 5.1, Section 34, Test O.1
The burning time of the mixtures of the test item with cellulose (4:1 and 1:1) was greater than the burning time of the reference mixture of potassium bromate and cellulose (3:7). Based on the test results the test item does not have to be classified as oxidizing solid.
Thus, the test item has not to be classified as oxidizing solid according to Regulation (EC) 1272/2008.
