Specific details on test material used for the study:
The test item as described in this study report is a mixture of 2 parts manganese-IV-oxide and 1 part copper-II-oxide. A chemical analysis was not performed. However, particle size distribution was determined within this study (no details on method) to define the test material, and results are in good accord with results from the key study for granulometry (Siemens, 2017: sieving-method):

D50 (mass%) key = 1300 µm; D50 (vol%) this study = 968.82 µm
D10 (mass%): key = 1100 µm; D10 (vol%) this study = 458.3 µm
D90 (mass%): key = 1500 µm; D90 (vol%) this study = 1549 µm

Test material used for granulometry by Siemens (2017) had the following composition:
70.26 % Manganese dioxide, 22.16 % Copper oxide;
purity: 92.42%

From the data on granulometry as well as the fact that the production process was left unchanged with regard to both materials, a very similar composition to the one analyzed 2017 can be assumed with high certainty for the one analyzed for oxidising properties in this study.

Evaluation of results:

Criteria:

- If t1 or t2 <= R1, then Division 5.1 and packaging group III

- If t1 or t2 <= R2, then Division 5.1 and packaging group II

- If t1 or t2 <= R3, then Division 5.1 and packaging group I

- If no ignition or burning, or t1 or t2 > R1, then criteria of Division 5.1 not fulfilled

Result for the test item:

The test item does not fulfil requirements for Division 5.1 Oxidizing substances: the mean burning times t1 (1:1 mixture test item to cellulose, > 180 s) and t2 (4:1 mixture test item to cellulose, 142.3 s) are larger than the mean burning time of the 3:7 -mixture of potassium bromate to cellulose (R1 = 112.1 s).

Consequently, there is no classification requirement with regard to hazard class "oxidising solids" of REGULATION (EC) No 1272/2008 (CLP).

Interpretation of results:
GHS criteria not met
Conclusions:
There is no classification requirement for the submission substance with regard to hazard class "oxidising solids" of REGULATION (EC) No 1272/2008 (CLP).
Executive summary:

The submission substance was tested for oxidising properties according to UN manual of tests and criteria, UN-Test O.1.

According to results of sieving analysis of test item, less than 0.45% or particles had a grain size of less than 500 µm diameter. Consequently, the test item was used as delivered.

Results:

The test item does not fulfil requirements for Division 5.1 Oxidizing substances: the mean burning times t1 (1:1 mixture test item to cellulose, > 180 s) and t2 (4:1 mixture test item to cellulose, 142.3 s) are larger than the mean burning time of the 3:7 -mixture of potassium bromate to cellulose (R1 = 112.1 s).

Consequently, there is no classification requirement with regard to hazard class "oxidising solids" of REGULATION (EC) No 1272/2008 (CLP).
