Description of key information
No experimental studies of aquatic toxicity were conducted on 3,3,3-trifluoro-2-(trifluoromethyl)propene. As no release to the environment is anticipated and no exposure of the aquatic compartment is expected conducting aquatic ecotoxicological studies is considered not relevant for this substance.
Additional information
3,3,3-trifluoro-2-(trifluoromethyl)propene is a monomer in imported polymers only. No free substance is manufactured or used in EU therefore no direct release to the environment is possible.
In addition, the substance is a gas. Even if a certain level of solubility in water is present (WS = 272 mg/L), according to the environmental fate assessment the main compartment of distribution in case of release is the atmosphere. No significant distribution to the aquatic compartment is expected.
Moreover, due to the volatile nature of the substance, testing in aquatic media would be anticipated to be technically challenging due to the expected difficulties in generating and maintaining the appropriate concentration in water.
Basing on the above, conducting ecotoxicolgical assessment is considered not relevant for on 3,3,3-trifluoro-2-(trifluoromethyl)propene.
