Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.
The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

- JUSTIFICATION FOR DATA WAIVING
Experimental results have been determined for Bayferrox 303 T (Manganese ferrite) which has a very similar composition as Bayferrox 645T (iron manganese trioxide). According to the product information leaflet, the compositions of the Bayferrox types in discussion are:
Compound Bayferrox 303 T Bayferrox 645 T
Fe2O3 73 % 85 %
SiO2 + Al2O3 < 5 % < 4 %
MnO < 22 % < 10 %
The SiO2 and Al2O3 are very stable compounds they will not react even at high temperatures neither with flammable material nor with air and should be considered inert with respect to the physical properties relevant for classification. - Reason / purpose for cross-reference:

Description of key information
In iron manganese trioxide, the iron is already in its maximum oxidation stage of +III. Further oxidation is not possible. The Mn ion is in the oxidation stage of +II. Since manganese ferrite (CAS 68186-94-7) with a higher MnO content does not show any positive result in the EC A 16 test, iron manganese trioxide with a combination of a lower MnO content and a higher Fe2O3 content is not expected to give a positive result in this test either. Therefore, this substance will not react with oxygen on air, and self-heating cannot occur.
Iron manganese trioxide is classified as not undergoing spontaneous combustion according to EC-A 16.
Key value for chemical safety assessment
