Description of key information

The water solubility of the non-cyclic diester of hexanedioic acid with 1,5-pentanediol was calculated as 39.45 mg/l and 387.19 mg/l at 25 °C with the QSARs of EpiSuite v3.20.
In a study according to OECD Guideline 105 (1995) and EU test method A.6 (1992) with the flask method in the presence of excess 1,5-pentanediol the water solubility was 17.3 g/l at 20 °C for the total of all oligomers while 1,5-pentanediol was not detected due to the absence of UV absorption. The presence of 1,5-pentanediol may have increased the solubility of the oligomers significantly. Essentially four oligomers were observed. Their water solublity appeared to decrease with increasing molecular weight.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Water solubility:
17.3 g/L
at the temperature of:
20 °C

Additional information

Since 1,5-pentanediol was not measured as part of the solute in the experimental study, it can be assumed that the result of this study gives the correct order of magnitude of the copolymer's water solubility while the QSAR values are less reliable.
