Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Tetra-alkylammonium salts are therefore completely ionised at all concentrations and hence no dissociation constant values have yet been assigned to them. Examination of the structural formula establishes that N,N-Didecyl-N-methyl-poly(oxyethyl)ammonium Propionate is irreversibly ionised and therefore the determination of the dissociation constant is not applicable. Thus, it is considered that determination of the dissociation constant of N,N-Didecyl-N-methyl-poly(oxyethyl)ammonium Propionate is not required.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

N,N-Didecyl-N-methyl-poly(oxyethyl)ammonium Propionate is a polar quaternary alkyl ammonium compound and as such, it is already a fully dissociated molecule. Tetra-alkylammonium salts are therefore completely ionised at all concentrations and hence no dissociation constant values have yet been assigned to them (Albert and Serjeant, Ionization Constants of Acids and Bases, p138, pub. Methuen & Co. Ltd. 1962).
