- Overdosage with bromides causes slurring of speech, unsteadiness, depression or stupor, and psychosis. Delirium, transitory schizophrenia and hallucinations are characteristic. The literature reveals no uniform effect of overdosage on the eyes, but very commonly the pupils are large and have subnormal reaction to light or accommodation. The pupils return to normal when the patient recovers.
