The explosive properties of 2-Propylvaleric acid were determined according to regulation EG No 1272/2008 by differential scanning calorimetry. Samples of the test substance were filled into gold plated high pressure crucibles and heated to 500 °C in a differential scanning calorimeter. The test was performed twice. The onset temperature of the exothermal decomposition reaction was 𝑻onset = 162 °C.

with a decomposition energy of Δ𝑼 = −19 ± 1 J/g and 𝑻onset = 392 °C with a decomposition energy of Δ𝑼 = −84 ± 4 J/g. Since the absolute value of the decomposition energy was below 500 J/g the substance can be classified as non-explosive. No further testing is required.
