The tails of four anesthetized mice were immersed in the sample to a depth of 4 cm. one hour later the tissue reaction was terminated by plunging the appendages into a saturated solution of sodium bicarbonate for a period of 30 seconds; each tail was then rinsed with water and blotted dry.
