Additional information

Terrestrial toxicity is not a standard information requirement in Annex VIII of Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006. Furthermore, the substance is expected to have a low potential for adsorption to soil based on its ionic structure under environmental relevant pH conditions.

Nevertheless, for the analog substances EDTA (CAS 60-00-4) and disodium dihydrogen EDTA (CAS 139-33-3) information on terrestrial toxicity is available. One publication describes the short-term toxicity of EDTA (acid form) on soil macroorganisms [Edwards et al. 2009]. In this study according to OECD guideline 207 a 14 day LC50 value of 158 mg/kg dry weight was determined for the earthworm Eisenia fetida. Two further investigations published the impact of EDTA on agricultural plants [Evangelou et al. 2006 and Geebelen et al. 2002]. EDTA did not show adverse effect on vegetative vigour of Nicotiana tabacum up to and including a rate of 84 mg/kg soil.
