Description of key information

The short-term toxicity of alpha-Terpinyl Acetate to fish was determined in a GLP-compliant OECD 203 guideline study. Fish (Pimephales promelas; 20/dose) were exposed to nominal concentrations ranging from 1.2 to 18 mg/L under flow-through conditions with 0.1 mL/L dimethylformamide as
solvent for 96 hours. The test concentrations were analytically verified and determined at 1.1 to 11 mg/L (61 to 92% of nominal concentrations). The percentage mortality in the 11 mg/L treatment group at test termination was 45%, zero mortality was observed at all other test concentrations, including the control and solvent control. While there was no mortality in the 5.9 mg/L treatment group, there were observations of lethargic fish, fish surfacing and fish with loss of equilibrium. Signs of toxicity observed among fish in the 11 mg/L treatment group were lethargy and loss of equilibrium.Test conditions were maintained constant throughout the test, the dissolved oxygen concentration has been at least 70% of the air saturation value throughout the test. The 96-h LC50 value based on mean measured concentrations is >11 mg/L.
