Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Ward & Boeri (2004) reports a measured 72 hr EC50 of >970 mg/L and 72 hr NOEC of 500 mg/L, based on growth, for toxicity to aquatic algae.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
970 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
500 mg/L

Additional information

A reliable (Klimisch 1) toxicity study with algae has been conducted with HQEE and is included in this dossier.

Ward & Boeri (2004) conducted a reliable (Klimisch 1) GLP compliant study according to OECD 201 methods. Selenastrum capricornutum (new name: Pseudokirchnerella subcapitata) were exposed to measured concentrations (0, 63, 130, 250, 500, and 970 mg/L) of HQEE for 72 hours in a static system. The 72-hr EC50, based on growth, was >970 mg/L. The 72-hr NOEC, based on growth, was 500 mg/L.

Adequate reliable measured data exists for toxicity of HQEE to algae. The data point of highest concern for this endpoint has been identified in a reliable study which reports a measured 72 hr EC50 of >970 mg/L and 72 hr NOEC of 500 mg/L, based on growth, for toxicity to aquatic algae. Consequently these values will be taken as the toxicity in aquatic algae endpoint for HQEE.
