Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Study design

Details on sampling:
- Geographic coordinates: Georgia, US
- Known emission sources near sampling site: paper mills
- Period of sampling: 1974 (three-day composite samples)
- Sampling:
Two different effluent paper mills were sampled. Paper mills were characterised by similar process but different waste treatment.
* Paper Mill "A"; 49 000 metre-square of water passed through the treatment system daily. The wastewater treatment system was: Raw influent /
primary clarifier (5 hours) / trickling biofilter and secondary clarifier (3h) / aerated lagoon (2 days) = Treated effluent.
* Paper Mill "B"; 21 000 metre-square of water passed through the treatment system daily. The wastewater treatment system was: Raw influent /
lime floculation (40 min) / clarifier (6-8 h) / quiescent storage basin (3-6 months) = Treated effluent.

Three-day composite samples, composed of equal volumes, were collected both for raw and treated effluents for both paper mills.

- Sample storage before analysis:
Effluent samples were placed in polyethylene plastic containers, immediately frozen and stored at -10 deg.C until analysis
