Description of key information

The inhibition effect of the substance to activated sludge respiration was determined by using the OECD guideline method 209. The study was conducted in a laboratory where principles of Good Laboratory Practice have been introduced, but this study was not conducted in a compliance with GLP. The inhibition effects were expressed as EC50-value after 3 hours of incubation time.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for microorganisms:

Additional information

The substance is a UVCB-substance. According to respiration rates and calculated inhibition percentage, the substance has no inhibitory effects on activated sludge respiration during 3 hours incubation at maximum test concentration of 100 mg/L. The EC50-value could not been determined (EC50-value > 100 mg/L). Moreover, stimulation effects were observed when respiration rates of the substance were compared with the ones of the control samples. The substance most likely provided a good portion of organic carbon for the sludge microorganisms. However, there might be some uncertainties that have to be considered when evaluating the results. The substance might also contain some more easily volatile compounds that will evaporate from the test mixture during the testing. However, according to vapour pressure measurements of this substance no volatilization occurred at room temperature.
