Executive summary:

Test Objective and Information

The test is conducted to determine the relative density of a solid or liquid substance.

The relative density D204of solids or liquids is the ratio between the mass of a volume of substance to be examined, determined at 20°C, and the mass of the same volume of water, determined at 4°C. The relative density has no dimension.

The density, ρ,of a substance is the quotient of the mass, m, and its volume, v.The density, ρ, is given, in SI units, in kg/m3.

For solids or liquids, pycnometers of various shapes and with known volumes may be employed. The density is calculated from the difference in weight between the full and empty pycnometer and its known volume. The tests are run at a constant temperature, preferably 20°C, and at least two measurements are generally performed.

The test is conducted in accordance with the procedure described in EU Regulation (EC) 440/2008, Annex Part A test A.3 and OECD Test Guideline 109.

Mean Result :

Relative density (D204) 1.3426
