Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The 96-h LC50 of the structurally related analogue monopropylene glycol (CAS number 57-55-6) to Fathead minnow is 46500 mg/L.
The 96-h LC50 of the structurally related analogue tripropylene glycol (CAS number 24800-44-0) to is > 1000 mg/L.
Furthermore, calculated effect concentrations are available for freshwater fish (96-h LC50 15167 mg/l).
Based on this information it can be assumed that the 96-h LC50 of dipropylene glycol can assumed to be > 1000 mg/L

Additional information

No reliable data on dipropylene glycol was available. However, Article 13 of the REACH legislation states that, in case no appropriate animal studies are available for assessement, information should be generated whenever possible by means of other than vertebrate animal tests, i.e. applying alternative methods such as in vitro tests, QSARs, grouping and read-across. A study with the structural analogues mono- and tripropylene glycol was available for assessment.

The value that is derived from read-across with the structural analogues is used in the assessment. A full justification for read across within the propylene glycol series is contained in a separate document attached to chapter 13 of the lead registrants IUCLID dossier.
