- Specific details on test material used for the study:
- Identity: FAT 40824/A
Batch: Red ROE 805 BOP 04/05
Appearance: dark red powder
Purity: Organic part (Na-salt): approx. 82 %; Main component 1 : approx. 36.2 %; Main component 2: approx. 27.5 %; Oligomers: 10 %
Expiration date: 01 October 2010
Storage: At room temperature at about 20 °C in a desiccator (hygroscopic) - Test procedure:
- burning rate test: preliminary screening test
- Remarks on result:
- substance does not ignite and propagate combustion either by burning with flame or smouldering along 200 mm of the powder train within the 2 minutes test period
- Remarks:
- FAT 40824/A could not be ignited with a flame during the preliminary test (contact time of about 2 minutes).
- Interpretation of results:
- GHS criteria not met
- Conclusions:
- FAT 40824/A is considered as not "highly flammable".
- Executive summary:
In a GLP-compliant study, the determination of the flammability of the test item was performed in accordance with the EEC Directive 92/69, Part A, Methods for the determination of physico-chemical properties, A. 10 "Flammability (solids)", EEC Publication No. L383, December 1992. In contact with the ignition source, the flame became orange and FAT 40824/A turned black and started glowing while emitting some sparks. It sustained glowing for about 5 minutes. Underneath the black surface of the test item some unchanged material could be observed. FAT 40824/A could not be ignited with a flame during the preliminary test (contact time of about 2 minutes). Therefore, no main test was performed. In conclusion, FAT 40824/A is not "highly flammable" according to the criteria of the guideline.
Reference
In contact with the ignition source, the flame became orange and FAT 40824/A turned black and started glowing while emitting some sparks. It sustained glowing for about 5 minutes. Underneath the black surface of the test item some unchanged material could be observed. FAT 40824/A could not be ignited with a flame during the preliminary test (contact time of about 2 minutes). Therefore no main test was performed.
FLAMMABILITY IN CONTACT WITH WATER AND PYROPHORIC PROPERTIES
Chemical Structure
The appraisal of the molecular structure indicates no risk with respect to pyrophoric properties or the potential of evolving flammable gases in contact with water or humid air. Studies were performed in aqueous test systems (e.g. water solubility). The test item did not show any spontaneous ignition or formation of flammable gases performing the abovementioned study. Thus, it can be concluded beyond reasonable doubt that the test item does not ignite spontaneously when in contact with water or humid air.
Description of key information
The test substance is non flammable.
Key value for chemical safety assessment
- Flammability:
- not classified
Additional information
FAT 40824/A could not be ignited with a flame during the preliminary test for testing flammability of solids (contact time of about 2 minutes). The substance is stable in water as seen in various experiments including water solubility test and non-reactive in air at ambient conditions (non-pyrophoric). Thus, the substance is considered non-flammable.
Justification for classification or non-classification
The test substance is considered to be not highly flammable, hence it does not warrant classification according to the EU Classification, Labelling and Packaging of Substances and Mixtures (CLP) Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008.
