Description of key information

In a GLP study according to the preliminary test as specified in test method EC A.6 and OECD Guideline 105, cerium tetranitrate was determined to be very soluble in water with a maximum miscibility in water at a concentration higher than 1122 g/L at ca. 23°C. The pH of the solution was equal to -0.04 (Demangel B, 2012). It is important to note that precipitation of the test item was observed when the pH was increased to 5.4, 7.2 and 9.36.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Water solubility:
1 122 g/L
at the temperature of:
23 °C

Additional information

Although the maximum solubility in water was determined to be > 1.122x10E3 g/L, a bounded value of 1.122x10E3 g/L is used as the key value for chemical safety assessment. At the maximum solubility the substance precipitated when increasing the pH.
