Description of key information

In a GLP study in accordance with EC test method A.2, the boiling point of cerium tetranitrate was determined to be 63.9°C at atmospheric pressure, applying the DSC method (Ferron, 2012).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Boiling point at 101 325 Pa:
63.9 °C

Additional information

The boiling temperature of 63.9 °C reflects the high content of water in the test item.

The study also revealed a second endothermic peak at approx. 243 °C, which can be attributed to the formation of hydrated cerium dioxide (CeO2, 2H2O) which precipitates by thermohydrolysis.
