Additional information

According to Lyman et al. (1990) propionic acid is not expected to undergo hydrolysis in the environment, due to the lack of hydrolyzable functional groups. Furthermore propionic acid is readily biodegradable (cf. chapter 5.2). In Annex VIII of Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006, it is laid down that the study on hydrolysis does not need to be conducted if the substance is readily biodegradable. Therefore, no test on hydrolysis is performed.
