Description of key information
In accordance with point 7.8, Column 2 (Specific rules for adaptation from Column 1), Annex VII of Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006 (REACH), this study does not need to be conducted if the substance has a high surface activity. In a study provided, the surface tension of the substance was determined to be 53.0 mN/m, and based on an assessment of the emulsification properties and chemical structure, the substance was determined to be surface active. Testing for this endpoint can therefore be omitted, since the substance is a surface active material and testing is not technically feasible. Furthermore, the use of computer based estimation programs for materials of this nature are also considered invalid since most of the estimations of Log Pow are prone to error due to the effects of ionic charge.
For environmental risk assessment purposes log Kow has been estimated from log Koc using the equation Log Koc = Log Kow – 0.21.
Log Koc <= 0.97 and hence log Kow <= 1.18.
