Description of key information

The DT50 of 1-Methyl-2-pyrrolidone ranges between 4 days and 11.5 days depending on the soil type indicating rapid biodegradability.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Shaver (1984) evaluated half-lives of 14C radio-labelled N-Methyl-2 -pyrrolidone in clay, loam and sand. He found a DT50 of 4 days in clay, 8.7 days in loam and 11.5 days in sand. After 21 days the detectable amount of the test substance was below 100 µg/ kg.

The results indicate rapid biodegradability of 1-Methyl-2-pyrrolidone (CAS 872-50-4).
