Description of key information

Disodium dihydrogenpyrophosphate is known to inhibit bacteria. The process by which inhibition occurs is discussed in the data provided in Section 7.9.3. It is considered that chelation occurs via chelation of important cations in the cell walls. Studies also show that the antibacterial effects of phosphates can be altered substantially by the metal-ion content of the environment. 
Although this is not a REACH endpoint this data is submitted to illustrate an important property of the substance.
