Administrative data
- Endpoint:
- surface tension
- Type of information:
- experimental study
- Adequacy of study:
- key study
- Study period:
- 1931 - 1943
- Reliability:
- 2 (reliable with restrictions)
- Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
- other: Studies are old and the purity of the samples is not known, but nevertheless a good standard deviation of the data of +- 0.3 m/s² was obtained and the results are therefore considered reliable.

Data from between 14°C up to 41°C are given in the reference documents as follows (in g/s² = mN/m):
23.46 at 14.1°C |
22.46 at 23.3°C |
20.3 at 41.2°C |
23.56 at 15°C |
22.9 at 20°C |
21.74 at 30°C |
23.1 at 20°C |
22.5 at 25°C |
standard deviation on the basis of three data points at 20°C is 0.25 g/s²
Applicant's summary and conclusion
- Conclusions:
- A surface tension of 23 mN/m can be concluded from the Beilstein publication database.
- Executive summary:
A summary of published data on the surface tension of 2 -bromopropane yields 23 m/ s² as average at a temperature of 20°C. The standard deviation is estimated to be +- 1 m/s².
It should be noted, that in accordance with column 2 of REACH Annex VII, the surface tension study (required in section 7.6) does not need to be conducted as, based on structure, surface activity is not expected from 2 -bromopropane.
