Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Additional information

The majority of data on the physical and chemical properties of dibismuth trioxide were taken from handbooks (including CRC Handbook of Chemistry and Physics, 2007; The Merck Index, 2006), public databases (e.g. Gestis database on hazardous substances 2009) or MSDSs.

New testing in accordance with specific guidelines was conducted to obtain information about: water solubility and oxidising properties.

In addition, information for the particle size distributions of different commercially available dibismuth trioxide grades was made available by the Sponsor.Dustiness of dibismuth trioxide (technical grade and submicron) was determined according to DIN 55992-1:2006 (Determination of a parameter for the dust formation of pigments and extenders – Part 1: Rotation method). As a deviation, the Heubach dust meter was modified in a way that a seven stage cascade impactor is connected to the system.

Waivers are proposed for vapour pressure, partition coefficient, surface tension, flash point, auto flammability, pyrophoric properties, flammability in contact with water, flammability, explosiveness, stability in organic solvents, dissociation constant and viscosity.
