Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

An acute toxicity test in fish is available for cesium tetrafluoroaluminate. No other aquatic toxicity tests are available for cesium tetrafluoroaluminate and therefore the results from the structural analogue cesium fluoro aluminate complex are used instead (for details see Reporting format

as attached to the respective IUCLID entry and CSR Appendix A.2). For the structural analogue cesium fluoro aluminate complex, reliable GLP compliant aquatic acute ecotoxicity tests are available for fish, invertebrates and algae, as well as a respiration inhibition test with activated sludge. The environmental effects are expected to be mostly governed by the presence of fluoride anions formed upon dissociation of the fluoroaluminate moieties. As the contents of fluoride, expressed as a percentage of the molar weight in both substances are nearly identical, namely 32% for cesium tetrafluoroaluminate and ca. 30% for cesium fluoro aluminate complex, no correction was made for the difference in molecular weight percentage.

  • An OECD 203 study with cesium tetrafluoroaluminate reported a 96-h LC50 for Gobiocypris rarus of >120 mg/L (APM Shanghai, 2013). Another GLP-compliant guideline study is available for the short-term toxicity in fish (C. Carpio) with the structural analogue cesium fluoro aluminate complex. In this study the 96-h LC50 for carp exposed to cesium fluoro aluminate complex was >100 mg/L corresponding with an average exposure concentration of 40.1 mg/L based on measured concentrations.
  • A GLP-compliant guideline study is available for the short-term toxicity of cesium fluoro aluminate complex in aquatic invertebrates (D. magna). In this mobilization study a 48-h EC50 value of 31 mg/L was determined based on measured concentrations.
  • One reliable OECD 201 study with cesium fluoro aluminate complex report a 72-h EC50 values for growth rate and yield of 31 and 18 mg/L, respectively. The 72-h NOEC value is 8.0 mg/L for both endpoints.
  • A GLP-compliant guideline study is available for the toxicity of cesium fluoro aluminate complex in microorganisms. In this respiration inhibition study with activated sludge a 30-min EC50 value of >100 mg/L is determined.

No long-term aquatic toxicity tests are available.
