Description of key information

No data are available for dichromium tris(chromate), however data from related chromium compounds are available in the recent WHO review. 

Key value for chemical safety assessment

The WHO (2009) summarises the available data concerning short-term toxicity of Cr (III) compounds to aquatic invertebrates. LC50s in freshwater invertebrates ranged from 0.1 mg/l (Daphnia pulex) to 442 mg/l (Asellus aquaticus). LC50s ranging from 10 to 100 mg/l were reported for marine invertebrates. Trivalent chromium is more toxic in soft waters than hard waters.
